Better have it looked at
Intact gums are an important prerequisite for healthy teeth, because the gums hold our teeth in the jaw. However, many people suffer from periodontal disease (periodontitis), an inflammation of the gums.
The disease is insidious because it causes no pain, and is known as a "silent disease". Those affected will therefore often only notice it late. If left untreated, periodontal disease leads to tooth loss.
A trigger may be a lack of dental care. But during pregnancy, puberty or when taking certain medications, special care, close monitoring and cooperation with the dentist are necessary to prevent periodontitis.
As part of regular checkups, the dentist determines the severity of gum disease and undertakes corrective action.
